Class Descriptions —

Mini Movement Academy

Creative Movement 1 (age 2) and Creative Movement 2 (age 3)

Creative Movement and pre-ballet classes designed to enhance gross motor & listening skills, developing imaginations & musicality

Dancers wear any color leotard, tights and pink leather ballet slippers. Ballet skirts are optional (no tutus). Hair should be secured and pulled away from the face in ponytail or half-back for short hair.

MiniMovement 1 (age 4-5, by 9/1) and MiniMovement 2 (age 5-6, K in the fall)

Introduces basic ballet and tap technique, enhances coordination, flexibility and musicality

MiniMovement Jazz Funk/Hip Hop (age 4-6, through Kindergarten)

Introduces a funky style of basic jazz technique and hip hop movement in a developmentally appropriate way.

Dancers wear leotard, tank or tshirt with shorts or sweatpants. Tennis Shoes (NO Street Shoes). It is important that the dancers shoes be saved for class use only to protect our floors and keep them clear of debris. Hip Hop shoes should never be worn outside.

CLUB and Company Technique Classes

Levels 1-6 for Ballet, Jazz and Tap (by faculty placement)

Levels 1-4 for Acro (by faculty placement)

Levels 1-4 for Hip Hop class (by age)

It is important to us that every child is placed in the proper level of classes to ensure a positive learning environment and overall experience for your child.  If you are uncertain of the appropriate class level for your child,  please contact Amy (330) 858-1354 or amy@thedancehouseohio.com.

BALLET

Ballet is the fundamental of all styles of dance.  It develops grace, poise, discipline and confidence. Students will focus on proper body placement, balance, flexibility, coordination, and over technique through barre and center work.

Ballet Dress Code:

Solid color leotard, skirts optional,  tights and ballet shoes. Wrap sweater optional for warmup.  Hair must be NEATLY pulled of the neck and face in a bun, using bobby pins, No jewelry (small post earrings only)

Boys: Solid T-Shirt (no print), black shorts or black jazz pants, thin black socks, black ballet shoes 

JAZZ

Jazz dance includes developing technical jazz skills, musicality, progressions including turns, jumps and leaps, performance skills, flexibility, and self-confidence.

Jazz Dress Code:

Leotard, sports bra, leggings or athletic clothing, jazz shoes (levels 1-2), bare foot or contemporary footwear (levels 3-6). Hair must be pulled off the neck and face

Boys: T-Shirt (no print), shorts or jazz pants,  jazz shoes (levels 1-2), bare foot or socks (levels 3-6)

TAP

Tap dance is a form of dance that focuses on creating rhythms patterns by striking different parts of the foot on the floor.  Our tap classes focus on rhythmic patterns and Broadway styles.  Students will develop rhythm, musicality, coordination, agility, and basic through advanced tap skills.

Tap Dress Code

Solid colored leotard or fitted tank top, boy shorts or athletic pants (pants must not cover the bottom of the foot - NO Jeans),  black tap shoes. Hair NEATLY pulled away from the face and neck

ACRO

Perfect for dancers to improve strength, flexibility, tumbling skills, and overall coordination. Students learn and master tumbling skills in a developmentally, progressive way.

Acro Dress Code:

Solid color leotard, shorts or leggings optional. No tights, shoes or socks. Hair in ponytail. No jewelry

HIP HOP

Our hip hop classes set to upbeat music and the latest in one of the most popular forms of dance. Hip hop is a popular style of dance seen in commercials, music videos, concerts and more. Teaching rhythm and coordination, students will learn weekly dances set to age appropriate music and movement. This high energy class is popular with both boys and girls. Our hip hop classes levels are:

Hip Hop 1: ages 6-8

Hip Hop 2: ages 9-12

Hip Hop 3: ages 12-14

Hip Hop 4: 14 and older

Hip Hop Dress Code:

Any loose fit clothing (sweatpants, etc…). No jeans allowed . Tennis Shoes (NO Street Shoes). It is important that the dancers shoes be saved for class use only to protect our floors and keep them clear of debris for the safety of our dancers. Hip Hop shoes should not be worn outside, ever.

MUSICAL THEATER (level 2-3, level 4-6 dancers)

Perfect for students who are participating in school show choir and/or musicals, or for those who are interested in auditioning at their school or in the community.

Musical Theater Dress code:

Comfortable clothing that is easy to move in (no jeans). Bare feet

SPECIALTY CLASSES (Check current schedule for availability)

Dress Code for Specialty classes:

Sports bras, tanks, or light t-shirt, leggings or short, socks or bare feet

COMBO (level 2-3, level 4-6 dancers)

Dancers will learn weekly class combos in either jazz or lyrical/contemporary to develop their style, technique, retention skills, and ability to pick up choreography

CONDITIONING (level 2-3, level 4-6 dancers)

This class will help dancers develop their strength, coordination, balance, and flexibility through dance specific exercises. Dancers will need to bring their own yoga mat and purchase the resistance bands listed below. All other equipment will be provided by the studio.

STRETCH & FLEXIBILITY (ADULTS ONLY)

Participants will gain flexibility, balance and strength, essentials for healthy aging

YOGA (youth and adults)

Schedules vary throughout September-May, as well as summer programs.
